The Stone-Gamble Mansion is a striking two-story home inspired by Greek Revival design. Its rich history and architectural charm make it one of the most unique places to stay in Missouri. Built in 1856 for Napolean Stone, a Kentucky merchant who earned his fortune supplying wagons bound for the Oregon Trail, the mansion’s greatest distinction was its survival of Order Number 11 during the Civil War.
Originally, the home was a T-shaped design with two wings surrounded by farmland and walnut orchards. The mansion endured the war years, thanks in large part to Stone’s loyalty to the Union, which may have spared the property from destruction. In 1923, the residence was divided into two separate homes, with our Kansas City Bed and Breakfast occupying what was once the rear wing and side entrance. The other portion was relocated and later demolished, but the legacy of the Stone-Gamble Mansion lives on through its carefully preserved past and welcoming present.
Now called the Silver Heart Inn, our historic property is one of the most welcoming and unique places to stay in Missouri. Our Kansas City Bed and Breakfast features four romantic guest rooms in the main house and two private cottages, each designed with its own character. Every morning begins with a hearty gourmet breakfast, the perfect start before heading out to explore all the things to do in Independence. Book your stay today!
