Kansas City was once named one of “America’s Most Romantic Cities.” From art to sports, barbecue to fine dining, cocktails or microbrews- there truly is something for every couple’s interests. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Kansas City for couples:

  1.  A trip to the world’s barbecue capital wouldn’t be complete without a stop at a barbecue joint. Try Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, which claims to be the best barbecue on the planet, or  Arthur Bryants’s Barbecue in the 18th and Vine district, which attracted Presidents Truman, Carter, and Obama.
  2. Enjoy some live jazz. Kansas City has a rich jazz legacy. A visit to the iconic Green Lady Lounge is one of our favorite things to do in Kansas City for couples. Its retro-vibe provides a great atmosphere to enjoy a cocktail and jazz every night of the year.
  3. Enjoy the lowlit romance of a speakeasy. Once known as the “Paris of the Plains” during the Prohibition, Kansas City has long been known for its cocktail culture. Check out P.S. Speakeasy.
  4. Shop or dine at Country Club Plaza. This 14-block area was designed in the Moorish Revival style after Seville, Spain. The Plaza, dotted with dozens of fountains, is the perfect place to sip a latte at a sidewalk cafe. Shops range from Aldo to West Elm.
  5. Kansas City has a museum for almost every interest. Check out The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, National WW1 Museum and Memorial, American Jazz Museum, or Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
  6. How many of the more than 200 fountains can you see? Kansas City is known as the City of Fountains. Perhaps the most recognizable is the fountain in Mill Creek Park. The Herman Wollman Bloch fountain, in front of Union Station, is a favorite. Don’t miss the choreographed “high show” on the hour and half-hour. Our bed and breakfast is located in Independence, just outside of Kansas City. Independence is warm and welcoming- a small-town slice of Americana. We are home to the Harry S.
