Seatle may get all the credit as the coffee capital of the nation, but our quiet island community takes its coffee just as seriously. Pegasus Coffee is an iconic business on Bainbridge Island and a historic leader in the coffee industry in the Northwest. Founded in 1980 by David Dessinger, this shop is a hub for visitors and locals alike for a latté, delicious fresh-baked goods, and special events.

As a guest at our Bainbridge Island hotel, you’ll be within walking distance of everything, including Pegasus Coffee. Pegasus Coffee & More Bainbridge Island Coffee Shops

Pegasus Coffee sits just across the street from our Bainbridge Island hotel, and their coffee is what we brew each morning in our own lobby, so you can start the day with a fresh cup before you’ve even left the building. Once you’re ready to head out for a latte or a treat, here’s the story behind Pegasus, along with a collection of our other favorite coffee shops on Bainbridge Island for a leisurely chat and good drinks.

Pegasus has been a specialty coffee landmark on Bainbridge Island since 1980. It was originally a hardware store, and today the same structure, wrapped in ivy and full of character, is one of the most photographed corners of downtown Bainbridge.

Step inside and you’ll find a hub for locals and visitors alike, known for a great latte, fresh-baked treats, and an easygoing, funky atmosphere. The covered outdoor seating area is a favorite gathering spot, and you’re just steps from the marina and the Waterfront Trail, a nice stroll after coffee. The Bainbridge Island Art Museum also has a small cafe open to the public, with a spacious outdoor patio serving Pegasus Coffee, a great option for an iced coffee on a warm afternoon.

You’re within walking distance of Pegasus and just about everything else downtown has to offer, so carry your cup out to our garden courtyard or back to the privacy of your suite, then leave the car in our free parking and explore downtown on foot, no rush required.

Pegasus is one of our favorites, but it’s far from the only coffee shop. If you’re a coffee connoisseur, we’d recommend Blackbird Bakery, Coquette Bake Shop, and even Town and Country as other stops on your tour of coffee shops on Bainbridge Island.
