Bainbridge Island sits just a short ferry ride from Seattle, a city that treats coffee like a religion, so it only makes sense that our island has grown its own devoted coffee culture. Locals have a favorite order at a favorite coffee shops on Bainbridge Island. One of the best ways to spend a Saturday morning here is wandering from cafe to cafe with a cup in hand while taking in downtown Bainbridge Island boutiques. The Best Coffee Shops on Bainbridge Island
Every coffee lover has their own idea of a perfect cup, which is exactly why there are so many great coffee shops on Bainbridge Island to choose from. Here’s our current lineup of favorites, including a few new additions worth trying on your next visit.
Blackbird Bakery sits right on Winslow Way. They pull shots of Herkimer Coffee for their lattes and drip coffee. Their pastries and granola are delicious, but the toast is the real reason regulars keep coming back. There’s plenty of room to settle in too, with seating inside the cafe and more outside along Madrone Lane, right next to the bakery.
Pegasus Coffee House has been a Bainbridge Island landmark since 1980. We love their coffee so much that we brew it each morning in our lobby. Their brick building, wrapped in ivy, is the kind of spot you’ll want a photo of, and their espresso drinks and baked goods are worth the two-minute walk from our door.
Coquette Bake Shop started as a beloved croissant-and-coffee cart before growing into a full-fledged bakery in Winslow Green. They pour Caffe Vita, so it’s a great stop for a well-made espresso alongside fresh-baked goods.
Chez Lolo is one of the newer names on this list, a French bakery on the second floor of the pavilion on Madison Avenue. They serve authentic European pastries alongside coffee from Olympia Coffee Roasting. It’s a delicious pit stop if you’re wandering downtown and want something a bit different from the usual espresso counter.
Bainbridge Play Cafe brings Scandinavian design and hygge vibes to the coffee scene, with locally roasted coffee from Cafe Cocina in Poulsbo and a solid lineup of matcha drinks, too. The menu is gluten-friendly and allergy-aware, and there’s a separate play area for the kids, so parents can actually finish a hot drink for once. We recommend the hygge latte. You can even order ahead, and they will bring it out to your vehicle!
Town and Country Market has its own coffee bar right inside the store, serving lattes, London Fogs, and smoothies, with the kind of quick, friendly service you’d want on your grocery run. There’s a second-floor seating area at the front of the store, plus plenty of outdoor tables if you’d rather enjoy the fresh air.
Cups Espresso is just a block from the inn and has become one of the go-to coffee shops on Bainbridge Island for small meetups. They serve Caffe Umbria and excellent baked goods. There’s plenty of space to spread out with a group.
Rolling Bay Cafe is as quirky and delightful as it gets, just north of Winslow and connected to the popular Bay Hay & Feed store and nursery. They brew Grounds For Change, a Kitsap local roaster. It’s a true neighborhood spot and a great excuse to stop if you’re exploring the island by bike.
Marketplace at Pleasant Beach serves the south end community in Lynwood Center with local eats and handcrafted drinks. There’s plenty of seating to enjoy your cappuccino in the morning, and in the evening, the same space turns into a Greek restaurant with table service.
Storyville Roasting Studio is located in Bainbridge’s Coppertop Park, near Bainbridge Brewing and Bainbridge Organic Distillers. The roasting studio itself is a beautiful, creative space with a full-service cafe upstairs.
For the record, yes, Bainbridge Island does have a Starbucks. Two of them, actually, for whenever you need that Frappuccino fix. But we think you’ll enjoy the local character and flavor of the shops above even more. That’s the best part of visiting Bainbridge Island, getting to know the small community one cup at a time.
