Why is Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland So Famous?

Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland began in 1945, when Wally Bronner started a sign-painting business in Frankenmuth. Over the decades, the family-owned company grew into the enormous Christmas attraction visitors know today.

Bronner’s landscaped grounds cover 27 acres, while its building complex encompasses 7.35 acres, roughly the equivalent of 5.5 football fields. The actual shopping area covers 2.2 acres, or about 1.7 football fields. And there’s a lot packed into those 2.2 acres.

Bronner’s carries more than 50,000 trims and gifts, including about 8,000 ornament styles and more than 550 Nativity scene styles. More than 300 decorated Christmas trees fill the store, and there’s a little challenge hidden among their branches: every decorated tree includes a Nativity ornament for visitors to find.

Personalized ornaments are another Bronner’s specialty. Its artists personalize roughly 600,000 ornaments each year, and about half of the glass ornaments sold are exclusive Bronner’s designs. Despite the store’s enormous selection, two-thirds of its merchandise is priced under $20.

You’ll also find some impressive sights outside. Three giant Santa Claus figures stand 17 feet tall, and the half-mile Christmas Lane glows with approximately 100,000 lights every night.

Bronner’s is more than a place to shop for Christmas decorations. It’s part shopping trip, part Michigan attraction, and, for many people, an annual holiday tradition.

Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland Hours for 2026

If you’re visiting from October through December, current Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland hours are:

Bronner’s is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, U.S. Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The store closes early at 4 pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Bronner’s also currently lists a noon-to-3 pm closure on Good Friday, along with several special early closures earlier in the year.

If personalized ornaments are on your list, Paint-n-Go hours from July through December are 10:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, 9 am to 7 pm Saturday, and noon to 4:30 pm Sunday.

Is Bronner’s Open After Christmas?

Yes. Bronner’s isn’t a seasonal store. It’s open almost every day of the year.

From January through May, current hours are 9 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday and noon to 5:30 pm Sunday. Seasonal hours change again in June and from July through September.

Christmas Lane has a different schedule. Its approximately 100,000 lights illuminate the half-mile route every evening from dusk until midnight, including dates when the store is closed.

The Silent Night Memorial Chapel is open during regular store hours. Hours and special closures can change, so check Bronner’s official store-hours page shortly before your trip.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Bronner’s?

For the lightest holiday-season crowds, visit on a weekday morning before Thanksgiving, preferably Monday through Thursday near opening time. Bronner’s identifies November and December as its busiest season, and the weekend immediately after Thanksgiving is traditionally its busiest weekend of the year. As many as 50,000 guests can visit during Thanksgiving weekend alone.

Frankenmuth’s holiday festivals and special events can bring even more people into town, so it’s worth checking the local event calendar before choosing your dates.

Here’s how we’d approach a holiday visit:

If Saturday is your only option, arrive for the 9 am opening. On Sundays, Bronner’s doesn’t open until noon.

How Long Should You Spend at Bronner’s?

Plan about 2 to 2.5 hours to shop at Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland according to their own visitor’s guide. Remember, you’re dealing with 2.2 acres of shopping space, around 8,000 ornament styles, more than 50,000 trims and gifts, and hundreds of decorated trees.

If you want personalized ornaments, give yourself extra time. If you plan to visit the Program Center or Silent Night Memorial Chapel, allow more than 2.5 hours. Then save some time after dark for Christmas Lane.

Tips for Visiting Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland

A little planning makes exploring the World’s Largest Christmas Store much easier.

Order personalized ornaments early. During the July through December season, weekday Paint-n-Go service runs from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. You can also place special orders at Customer Service in section 12 from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, and they’re generally ready in about an hour. If personalization is important to you, make it one of your first stops.

Check the Santa schedule if you’re visiting with kids. Bronner’s current visitor information lists Santa visits from after U.S. Thanksgiving through December 24. Check the current event schedule before your trip for exact dates, hours, and procedures.

Grab a store directory. With more than two acres of shopping space, knowing where to find ornaments, lights, Nativities, personalization, Customer Service, and the Program Center can save a lot of backtracking.

Ship fragile purchases home. Bronner’s offers shipping services for merchandise purchased at the store, which can be particularly useful if you’re buying delicate glass ornaments or flying home.

Wear comfortable shoes. This isn’t a quick stop at an ordinary gift shop. Bronner’s provides wheelchairs.

Look for the hidden Nativity ornaments. Every decorated Christmas tree at Bronner’s has a Nativity ornament tucked among its branches. With more than 300 decorated trees throughout the store, there’s no shortage of opportunities to look.

Take a break at Season’s Eatings. Located in section 11, Season’s Eatings offers light refreshments when you’re ready to sit down before continuing your shopping.

Don’t Skip the Silent Night Memorial Chapel

Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland is closely connected to Wally Bronner’s Christian faith. Wally’s deep faith and passion for Christmas began as a child singing “Silent Night” at St. Lorenz Church, an experience that inspired him to later build an authentic replica of the Stille Nacht Kapelle chapel from Oberndorf, Austria, right on the store’s grounds. The chapel, softly illuminated each night, serves as a quiet place for reflection amid the bustle of holiday shopping.

Wally grew up in Frankenmuth and began his business career as a sign painter in 1945. Years later, his connection to the Christmas carol “Silent Night” led to one of the property’s most meaningful attractions. The Silent Night Memorial Chapel at Bronner’s is a replica of the chapel in Oberndorf, Austria, commemorating the site where “Silent Night” was first performed on Christmas Eve in 1818.

After receiving permission to build a replica of the site where “Silent Night” was first performed on Christmas Eve in 1818, Wally Bronner began construction in 1992. The chapel was dedicated on November 20 of that year. Today, the chapel sits on the south end of the Bronner’s grounds and is open during regular store hours for visitation and meditation.

Inside Bronner’s, the free Program Center in section 2 provides another look at the company’s history. Presentations cover Wally Bronner, the store, and the history of “Silent Night,” while displays include vintage Christmas decorations, handmade Nativities, and other collections.

See Christmas Lane After Dark

You haven’t seen everything at Bronner’s until you visit after the sun goes down.

The half-mile Christmas Lane is illuminated with approximately 100,000 lights every evening from dusk until midnight throughout the year. The display remains illuminated even on the four days Bronner’s store is closed. If you’re visiting during November or December, sunset arrives early enough to make Christmas Lane easy to add to your plans.

One of our favorite ways to plan our day is to arrive at Bronner’s in the afternoon, shop for a couple of hours, visit the Silent Night Memorial Chapel, and then see Christmas Lane after dark.

If you’re grabbing dinner in Frankenmuth, you can also shop earlier, eat in town, and drive Christmas Lane before heading back to Bay City.

Make a Day of It in Frankenmuth

Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland may be Frankenmuth’s most famous Christmas attraction, but there’s plenty more to do while you’re here.

Often called Michigan’s Little Bavaria, Frankenmuth celebrates its German heritage throughout its architecture, restaurants, shops, and festivals. The holidays add another layer, with seasonal markets, decorations, carriage rides, special events, and activities throughout town.

Check the calendar for the Frankenmuth ChristKindlMarkt and other seasonal events, take a horse-drawn carriage ride through town, or browse the downtown shops.

A famous Frankenmuth chicken dinner is practically an attraction of its own. Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth and Bavarian Inn Restaurant are both longtime favorites, and reservations are worth considering during busy December weekends.
